Joseph A. Dominguez, 72, Bowling Hall of Fame Inductee

Joseph A. Dominguez 72 died Saturday, December 23, 2006 in the Progressive Rehabilitation Center, Las Vegas following a brief illness.

He was born March 29, 1934 in Lorain. He was a Lorain resident for 66 years before moving to Las Vegas in 2000. He graduated from Lorain High School in 1954, where he "lettered" in varsity baseball.

Mr. Dominguez retired in 1998 as a plastic mould operator at General Motors. He worked for General Motors in Elyria and Brookpark, Ohio for 37 years.

He served with 1st battalion F company in the Marines as a Motar man and a Proof Technician of Fire Arms during the Korean War. He earned the good conduct metal. He was a member of the All Marine bowling team of Parris Island, part of the Visiting Athletes and Special Services.

He was a former member of Sacred Heart Chapel and Saint John Roman Catholic Church both of Lorain. Mr. Dominguez was also a member of the United Auto Local 1005, Parma and Veterans of Foreign Wars Mullen-Murray Post 451, Mexican Mutual Society, Knights of Saint John, Croatian Club and the Slovenian Lodge all of Lorain.

Mr. Dominguez was inducted in the Lorain Bowling Hall of Fame in 1991. At the age of 61, in 1995 he bowled his first 300 game. He also rolled many other "award scores". He bowled with many teams, including, Rebman's B League, Gene's Floor Covering Classic at Saxon Lanes both in Lorain and with Rodriguez's Drywall at the Shoreway Lanes in Sheffield Lake. He had also played fast pitch soft ball for 20 years until 1976.

Among the survivors are his son Joseph L. Dominguez of Lorain; daughters Vita D. Dominguez, Vera L. Goode Dominguez, Dominica F. and Tina M. Dominguez all of Las Vegas, Nevada and Darlene Ruma of Omaha, Nebraska; brother Lupe Dominguez of Lorain; sisters Marcela Rose Belch and Eleanor Gonzales both of Lorain, seven grand children and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 46 years Grace (nee Pass) Dominguez in March of this year; parents Louis L. and Josephine (nee Gonzalez) Dominguez, Sr.; brothers Francisco, Manuel, Louis and Martin Dominguez; sisters Trinidad Dominguez, Laura Espitia and Francis Marge Maloy.

Friends May call Tuesday, January 2, 2006, 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 PM in the Richard J. Reidy Funeral Home, 1783 East 31st Street, South Lorain. Funeral service will be Wednesday, January 3, 2006, 10:00 AM in the First Evangelical Lutheran Church, 5th Street and Washington Avenue. Rev. Dr. Linwood H. Chamberlin, Pastor will officiate. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park Cemetery, Amherst Township, where the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 451 will conduct military honors.
