Fidel Acevedo, 85, Construction Laborer

Fidel Acevedo 85 of Lorain died Tuesday, January 16, 2007 in Golden Acres Nursing Home, Amherst following a lengthy illness.

He was born April 24, 1921 in Lares, Puerto Rico. He lived there until coming to Lorain in 1993.

Mr. Acevedo was a retired construction laborer. He had also worked on the sugar cane farms and made baskets.

He was a member of Sacred Heart Chapel, Lorain. He enjoyed his vegetable garden and fishing.

Among the survivors are his wife of 50 years Rosa Acevedo (nee Ramos); sons Angel Luis, Fermin and William Acevedo all of Lorain, Ismail Acevedo of Elyria; ten grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his son Martin Acevedo and an infant daughter; parents Juan and Luisa (nee Cajigas) Acevedo; brother Marino Acevedo, sister Maxmina.

Friends may call Thursday, January 18, 2007, 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Richard J. Reidy Funeral Home, 1783 E. 31st St, South Lorain. Funeral services Friday, January 19, 2007 with closing prayers at 8:45 am in the funeral home followed by Mass of Christian Burial, 9:30 AM at Sacred Heart Chapel, 4301 Pearl Avenue, Lorain 44055. The Reverend Fr. William A. Thaden pastor of Sacred Heart Chapel will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
