Laurence E. Brubaker, 59, Local Cab Driver, Marine
Laurence E. "Madd Dog" Brubaker 59 of Vermilion died Friday, January 20, 2007 following a lengthy illness.He was born January 20 1947 in Lorain. He lived fifty-five years in Lorain before moving to Birmingham in 2002 and then to Vermilion in 2005.
Mr. Brubaker had been working since his retirement as a driver for Lorain Cab, Red Cab and Save and Reliable Cab companies. He retired as a supervisor in 1986 from the BOP shop at United States Steel, Lorain. He worked there for 23 Years.
He served in the Marines in Vietnam, earning Vietnamese Service Metal, National Defense Service Metal and a Marksman Badge.
Mr. Brubaker attended Mount Olive Baptist Church, Lorain. He was member of the United Steel Workers Union Local 1104 Lorain and was a life member of American Legion Post 30, Lorain. He enjoyed karaoke, visiting casinos; playing the lottery and people he had a "Gift of Gab".
Among the survivors are his wife of seven years Wendy (nee Carpenter) Brubaker of Vermilion; son Tim Brubaker of Lorain; step-sons Jessie and Lonnie Carr both of Lorain and John Carder of Lorain; step daughters Jessica and Ashley Vickers both of vermilion; one granddaughter; brother Michael Kordelesky of West Virginia and a sister Barb Beetler of Amherst. He was a preceded in death by his Mother Florentine Kordeleski and step-daughters Tiffany and Amber Vickers.
Friends may call Tuesday, January 23, 2007, 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 PM in the Walter A. Frey Funeral Home, 700 West Erie Avenue, Lorain. Where the funeral service will be Wednesday, January 24, 2007, 10:00 AM in the funeral home. The Reverend Geneva Hedson of Liberty and Jesus Church, Lorain will officiate. Burial will follow in Rest Haven Memory Garden, Avon.
