John L. Yuhos, 77, United States Marine Veteran
John L. Yuhos, Sr. age 77, of Lorain, died Sunday January 21st, 2007 at the Ohio Veterans Home in Sandusky following an extended illness. John was born in Amherst, Ohio on October 27, 1929 and had been a resident of Lorain for the majority of his life.He was a graduate of Brookside High School as a member of the Class of 1947. He went on to enlist in the United States Marine Corps where he completed Engineer School at Fort Belvoir, Virginia. He served during the Korean Conflict fulfilling duty assignments as a Drafting Engineer. He attained the rank of Sergeant and was the recipient of the Good Conduct Medal.
He was employed as a pipe fitter with Plumber and Pipefitters Local # 42 of Norwalk. A member of the American Society of Metals, he retired in 1962.
A parishioner of Saint Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Elyria Township, Mr. Yuhos was a landlord in Lorain and was an active member of the Lake Erie Landlord’s Association. In his free time he enjoyed playing the guitar and the organ.
He is survived by his wife of fifty-five years Betty (nee Thompson), daughters Mary Yuhos of Vermilion, Linda Doan of Amherst, Karen Hitchcock of Lake Orion, Michigan, and Jacqueline Tomsik of Hinckley, sons Donald Carmichael of Grafton, John L. Yuhos, Jr. of Las Vegas, Nevada, and Christopher Yuhos of Stow, thirteen grandchildren, three great grandchildren, and brothers Joseph of Sheffield Lake and William of Lorain.
He was preceded in death by his parents John and Elizabeth (nee Steffan) Yuhos, and by his sister Margaret Yuhos in infancy.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel 3224 Broadway Avenue Lorain. Funeral services will be Wednesday beginning at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral chapel and will be followed by the celebration of his funeral mass at 10:00 a.m. in Saint Vincent de Paul Catholic Church 41295 North Ridge Road in Elyria Township. The Reverend James Ols, pastor of St. Vincent de Paul Church, will officiate. Burial will follow in Resthaven Memory Gardens in Avon.
