Louis J. Rehoreg, 83, Owned Eldotread Machine Shop

Louis J. Rehoreg, 83, of Amherst, died Monday, January 22, 2007 at the Ohio Veterans Home in Sandusky after a long illness.

He was born February 13, 1923 in Sheffield Township and had resided in Amherst for the past 6 years moving from Sheffield Township where he had lived most of his life.

Louis attended Clearview schools and served with the US Army Air Corps as a Staff Sergeant and Onboard Mechanic with Squadron A-2, 554th AAFBU in Casablanca, Africa.

Louis worked at National Tube Company in Lorain for about 2 years then owned and operated Eldotread Machine Shop in Elyria retiring in 1985. After that he worked at Gargus Hall in Sheffield Township for 10 years.

Louis joined the Sheffield Township Fire Department in 1959 and served as Fire Chief from 1977-1982. He was a Sheffield Township trustee from 1982-1988.

He was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Elyria Township and a life member of VFW Post #1079 in Elyria. He enjoyed stock car racing and raced at the Lorain County Speedway. He was an avid NASCAR fan and enjoyed fishing and pitching horseshoes. He owned at cottage on Kelley’s Island for 15 years. While in the military he was a baseball pitcher.

He is survived by his wife of 7 years Betty C. Rehoreg (nee Kulhay), daughters Nancy Maddock of Columbia Station and Annette Zientarski of Vermilion, sons Glen Rehoreg of Elyria and Bill Rehoreg of Sheffield Township, 6 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren and sisters Vilma Smith and Katherine Dallos, both of Sheffield Township. He was preceded in death by his first wife Betty Ann Rehoreg (nee Zimmerman) in 1996, parents Steve and Barbara Rehoreg (nee Bodnar), brother Steve Rehoreg and sisters Valeria Rehoreg and Bertha Arnoczky.

The family will receive friends Thursday, January 25, 2007, from 2-9 PM at the Gluvna Shimo Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave., Lorain. Funeral services will be held Friday at 9:30 AM in the funeral chapel followed by the mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 41295 N. Ridge Rd., Elyria. The Rev. James Ols, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park in Amherst Township where VFW Post #1079 of Elyria will conduct military honors.
