Katherine M. Balog, 91, Enjoyed Dancing and Cooking
Katherine M. Balog (nee Nagy), 91, formerly of Lorain, , died peacefully Sunday, January 28, 2007 in her daughter's home Corpus Christi, Texas.She was born November 25, 1915 in Lorain. She spent her early years in Croatia. She returned to Lorain as a young woman. She lived in Corpus Christi, Texas for the last ten years.
Mrs. Balog worked as a seamstress at Weitz, Joseph & Feiss Company and Daltons in Lorain she also worked at Whittier Junior High School, Lorain in the cafeteria. She retired from Daltons in 1982.
She was a member of Saint Phillip Catholic Church, Corpus Christi, Texas and Saint Vitus Catholic Church, Lorain. On her 90th birthday, loved ones from 9 states joined in a memorable celebration of her life. Because people were her passion, she had tenaciously maintained contact with her considerable network of family and friends and counted her blessings everyday. She was a happy spirit and a dear friend to many - eager to lend a hand and quick to forgive a slight. She loved life and enjoyed dancing, cooking, entertaining, playing cards and Bunco, and gardening.
Among the survivors are her daughters, Stephanie Balog of Corpus Christi, Texas, Kathleen DeMarco of Louisville, Kentucky, Elaine (Bonnie) Hibbard of Medina, Ohio, and Corinne Fogel of Atlanta, Georgia; two sisters, Anastasia Pongraz and Francis Kralic of Croatia; and five grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George Balog in 2001, parents Andrew and Maria (nee Uljaki) Nagy, daughter, Clarice "Keesy" Balog and brothers and sisters.
Friends may call Friday, February 2, 2007, 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 PM at the Richard J. Reidy Funeral Home, 1783 East 31st Street, South Lorain, Ohio. The parish Rosary will be prayed Friday at 2:30 PM in the funeral home. Closing prayers will be Saturday, February 3, 2007, 9:30 AM in the funeral home followed by Mass in Saint Vitus Croatian Catholic Church, East 32nd Street and Pearl Avenue, South Lorain. The Reverend Simon Nekic, Pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain Ohio.
