Jeffrey J. Pintur, 56, USMC Veteran

Jeffrey J. Pintur, age 56, of Lorain, died Thursday February 1, 2007 at EMH Regional Medical Center in Elyria following a brief illness.

He was born in Elyria, Ohio on August 8, 1950 and had been a life-long resident of Lorain.

Jeff graduated from Lorain High School as a member of the Class of 1968. Following his graduation, he entered the United States Marine Corps where he fulfilled duty assignments as a Private First Class attached to the 1371st Combat Engineers Division in Southeast Asia. He was the recipient of the National Service Defense Medal, the Viet Nam Campaign Medal with one device, the Southeast Asia Combat Action Medal, and the Viet Nam Service Medal with one RVM Cross of Gallantry with Palm and Frame and a Meritorious Mast. He was a former member of the Marine Corps League, and was a life member of Mullen-Murray Post # 451 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Lorain. He was also a member of American Legion Post # 30 also in Lorain and was the youngest veteran to ever serve that organization as post commander.

He was employed as a patrolman with the Lorain Police Department for twenty-two years retiring in 1999. He was also a member of the Lorain Harbor Patrol while it was under the supervision of the police department. Following his retirement from law enforcement, Jeff worked for the Catholic Cemeteries Association of the Cleveland Diocese and as a driver for the Lorain County Division of Diversified Transportation Service.

Mr. Pintur was extremely active as a volunteer with Operation Open Heart throughout Lorain County and was currently serving as that organization’s Treasurer.

He was a member and former Administrator of Lake Erie Lodge # 552 of the Loyal Order of The Moose, as well as a member of Knights of Saint John Commandery # 281 of Lorain.

He leaves behind his wife of twenty-six years Sharon (nee Kiser), daughter Danielle Pintur of Lorain, step-son David Smith of Marion, Ohio, granddaughter Ashley Smith of Lorain, mother Elizabeth Pintur (nee Gurchik) of Lorain, father John Pintur of Lorain twin sister Jennifer Cook of Long Beach, California, and sister Cynthia Reinke of North Ridgeville, and by his brother Jonathon “Jock” Pintur of Wellington.

A gathering of remembrance will be observed Monday from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel 3224 Broadway Avenue – Lorain.
