Ann E. Mark , 91, Educator, Volunteer, Homemaker
Ann E. Mark (nee Savel), age 91, of Kent, and formerly of Lorain, died Saturday February 3rd, 2007 at Robinson Memorial Hospital in Ravenna, Ohio following an extended illness.Mrs. Mark was born in Olyphant, Pennsylvania on July 10, 1915 and moved to Lorain as a youth in 1920. She relocated to Kent, Ohio in 1947 and had been a resident of Portage County ever since.
Ann graduated from Lorain High School and received both her Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education and her Master of Arts Degree in Education from Kent State University. She was employed as an elementary school teacher for Saint Patrick Parochial School in Kent and later for the Stow City School District. Prior to completing her degree studies, she had been employed by the Weitz Clothing Company of Lorain.
She was a parishioner of Saint Patrick Catholic Church in Kent and had been a former parishioner of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Lorain. She was a member of the Slovak Catholic Sokols Wreath # 111.
Ann was a devoted homemaker who was able to manage her professional career and still assist with volunteer work with the City of Kent Meals On Wheels Program as well as for the American Red Cross as a Bloodmobile volunteer.
She was an avid reader who enjoyed travel. She was a talented artist who liked working with acrylics and drawing black and white sketches. She was also highly skilled in all forms of needlework.
Survivors include her son Eugene J. Mark of Winchester, Massachusetts, daughter Janice Mark with whom she made her home in Kent, three grandchildren, and sister Mary Pitak of Lorain.
She was preceded in death by her husband Steven J. Mark, Ph.D. in 2003, by a son Donald S. Mark in 1999, and by her parents Martin and Eleanor Savel.
Visitation will be Tuesday from 8:30 a.m. until time of closing prayers at 9:30 a.m.in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel 3224 Broadway Avenue Lorain. A funeral mass will follow at 10:00 a.m. in Holy Trinity Catholic Church 2428 Elyria Avenue with the Reverend David A. Novak, pastor of Holy Trinity Parish officiating. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery Lorain.
The family encourages memorial contributions to Saint Patrick School in Kent, Ohio.
