Dale L. Hawes, 68, Lorain Area Pastor And Advisory Consultant

Reverend Dale L. Hawes, (nee Gardner) age 68, of Lorain, died Saturday February 3rd at her residence following an extended illness.

She was born in Williamston, North Carolina on December 19, 1938 and was a graduate of Williamston High School.

Following her graduation, she enrolled at the Holmes Theological Seminary in Greenville, South Carolina and completed four years of study there. She participated in extensive evangelical work throughout South Carolina, North Carolina, and Virginia prior to relocating to Conneaut, Ohio in 1956. She became a resident of Lorain County in 1966 and had remained there until the time of her passing.

She and her husband served as co-pastors of the Wings of Faith Church in Lorain. She was also currently serving as an advisory consultant for the Bethel Chapel in Sheffield Township. She was a member of the I.P.H.C. Pennsylvania Conference and had served as that organization’s Assistant Conference Superintendent. In addition to her roles as co-pastor and advisor, Reverend Hawes also served her churches in the roles of Mission Director, Youth Ministry Director, and Women’s Ministry Director.

She was an accomplished musician and vocalist who enjoyed reading, writing poetry, and spending time with her family and grandchildren in her free time.

She is survived by her husband of forty-seven years Reverend Charles L. Hawes, Sr., son Charles L. Hawes, Jr. residing in Grafton, daughters Lorri Bandagski, Kimberly Muskiewicz, Dawn Hawes, and Robin Allen all of Lorain, fourteen grandchildren, three great grandchildren, and a brother Larry Gardner of Woodbridge, Virginia. She was preceded in death by her father Haywood Gardner in 1977 and by her mother Frances Gardner in 1972.

Visitation will be Tuesday from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel – 3224 Broadway Avenue – Lorain. Funeral services will be Wednesday at 12:00 noon in the funeral chapel. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park in Amherst Township.
