Robert J. Caldwell, 67, Former Clearview Athletic Booster Association President

Robert J. Caldwell, Sr. age 67, of Sheffield Township, died Wednesday February 21, 2007 at Southwest General Hospital in Middleburg Heights, Ohio following a brief illness.

Mr. Caldwell was born in Clarksburg, West Virginia on October 18, 1939 and had been a resident of Lorain County since 1967 coming from his native West Virginia.

Bob was employed as a clean-up man at Ford Motor Company’s Lorain Assembly Plant; he retired in 1997 after a career that spanned thirty years with the automaker. He was a member of United Autoworkers Local # 425 where he held the position of Guide and was also active on the recreation committee.

He was an avid fan of Clearview High School athletics and was a member and Past President of the Clearview Athletic Boosters Association. His love of his home state was evident in his passion for West Virginia University and for the Mountaineer sports teams. He was well known within the community for his vegetable gardening skills and also enjoyed helping others in whatever way he could during his retirement. His greatest joy came from spending time with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of forty-seven years Catherine (nee Plivelich), sons Bob, Jr. and Ernie both of Sheffield Township, Bill of Lorain, daughter Cathy Caldwell of Sheffield Township, grandsons Seth, Shane, and Billy Caldwell, granddaughters Breana, Courtney, and Brittany Caldwell, Amanda Agosto, great granddaughter Gabriella Grace Agosto, and sisters Eilene Harris and Carolyn Holbert both of Clarksburg, and Dora Mae Stull of Grantsville, West Virginia.

He was preceded in death by his father Julius Caldwell in 1975, by his mother Elenora (nee Fleming) Caldwell in 1991, by a brother Johnny Lynn Caldwell in infancy, and by sisters Doris Ann Plum in 1980 and Frances Haddox in 1999.

Visitation will be Sunday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel – 3224 Broadway Avenue – Lorain. Additional visitation will be observed on Tuesday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. in the Dorsey Funeral Home – 701 South Pike Street – Shinnston, West Virginia where funeral services will be conducted Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. The Reverend Robert Shingleton will officiate. Burial will follow in Shinnston Masonic Cemetery in Shinnston, West Virginia.
