Richard A. Antus, 77, US Steel Retiree, Enjoyed Growing African Violets

Photo of Richard A. Antus Richard A. Antus, 77, of Lorain, died Monday February 26, 2007 at New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph in Lorain after a lengthy illness.

He was born December 28, 1929 in Beaverdale, Pennsylvania and had resided in Lorain for the past 57 years.

Richard worked at US Steel in Lorain in the BOP Shop as a steel pourer for 39 years retiring in 1987.

He was a longtime member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Elyria Township where he served as an usher during mass. He was a member of the American Slovak Club, was an avid sports fan and Pittsburgh Steelers fan. He enjoyed gardening, growing African Violets and babysitting his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years June Antus, daughters: Bernie Deidrick of Lorain and Debbie Carlson of Conneaut, sons: Richard J. Antus of Elyria and Larry Antus of Anchorage, Alaska, 10 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren, sister Helen Dennis of Lorain and nephew Ed Antus of Niles, Michigan. He was preceded in death by his daughter Barbara Burger in 2002, parents John & Anna Antus (nee Mikalos), sisters Ann Kasten, Marie Rhodaberger and Margaret Dancisko and brothers Michael Antus, Andrew Antus and John Antus.

The family will receive friends Friday, March 2, 2007, from 2-9 PM at the Gluvna Shimo Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave., Lorain. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 9:30 AM in the funeral chapel followed by the mass of Christian Burial on Saturday at 10:00 AM at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 41295 N. Ridge Rd, Elyria Township. The Rev. James Ols, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Lorain.
