Shirley L. Stewart, 81, Enjoyed Card Games
Shirley L. Stewart (nee Thomas), 81 of Amherst, died Tuesday, March 13, 2007 at Amherst Manor Nursing Home, Amherst, following a lengthy illness.She was born October 17, 1925 in Lorain and had lived there most of her life until moving in with her daughter in Amherst 2003. She was a graduate from Lorain High School, class of 1943B and enjoyed attending class reunions.
She had been employed by the Tivoli Movie Theater and Smith & Gerharts Department Store before devoting herself to her marriage and family. Then later, she was a hostess in the main dining room at Aqua Marine Resort in Avon Lake.
She enjoyed card games and board games with family and friends. She also kept active with computer classes, a membership to the YMCA, bus trips, and dance classes. She loved music of all kinds and poetry, once winning first place in a poetry-writing contest. She was a very loving mother and grandmother.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Gale and Kevin Marshall of Amherst, OH, grandson and granddaughter, Michael and Kelly Marshall of Amherst, son David A and many other grandchildren, great grandchildren and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry A Stewart, and parents Ben and Bertha Thomas.
Friends may call from 2-4 and 7-9 on Thursday, March 15, 2007, at Schwartz, Spence, Boyer and Cool Home for Funerals, 1124 West 5th Street, Lorain. Services will be Friday at 11am in the funeral home. The Rev. Dr. Glen Stewart, Regional Minister of the Disciples of Christ of Tennessee will officiate. Burial will be in Ridge Hill Memorial Park.
