Emery L. Kolbe, 73, Lorain Senior Center President
Emery L. Kolbe, age 73, of Lorain, died Wednesday March 14, 2007 at the New Life Hospice Center of Saint Joseph following a brief illness.Emery was born in Lorain on April 20, 1933 and remained a life-long resident of the city.
He was a graduate of Lorain Saint Mary High School as a member of the Class of 1951 and went on to pursue a business curriculum at Bowling Green State University.
He was employed in the Bar Mill of United States Steel Corporation’s Lorain-Cuyahoga Works in a career that spanned thirty-five years with the steel producer. He was a member of United Steelworkers Local 1104 and had formerly served as a Grievance Man for that union. He had previously been employed by the Commodity Dry Cleaners, a business that was owned and operated by his family and once located at the corner of 18th Street and Broadway Avenue.
Emery was currently serving as the President of the Lorain Senior Center and was a member and past President of the Lorain Senior Men’s Fellowship. He was also a member and past Secretary of S.O.A.R Chapter 28-7-1 as well as past Chaplain of Lighthouse Chapter # 399 of the A.A.R.P.
A member of the Evening Light Tabernacle of Wapakoneta, Ohio, he enjoyed politics and was a member of the Lorain County Garden Club.
Survivors include his wife of fifty-four years Carol (nee Tackas), sons James J. Kolbe of Columbus and John E. Kolbe of Tiffin, daughters Jean Marie Kolbe and Julie Gallagher both of Lorain, Mary Mullner of Cleveland, six grandchildren, and one great grandson.
He was preceded in death by his father James Kolbai and Julia (nee Litkovitz) Kolbai.
Visitation will be Sunday, March 18, 2007, from 2:00 6:00 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel 3224 Broadway Avenue Lorain where services will be Monday at 10:00 a.m. The Reverend C.L. Walters, pastor of Evening Light Tabernacle will officiate.
