Jose A. ''Joe'' Martinez, 73, Enjoyed Bowling and Softball
Jose A. Joe Martinez, age 73, of Lorain, died Wednesday, March 28, 2007 at Autumn Aegis Nursing Home following an extended illness.Mr. Martinez was born in Hebbronville, Texas on October 2, 1933 and had been a resident of Lorain since his childhood.
A United States Navy veteran serving during the Korean Conflict, Joe fulfilled duty assignments aboard the USS Union and was the recipient of the National Defense Service Medal.
He was employed as a technician in the #2 Seamless Mill of United States Steel Corporation’s Lorain-Cuyahoga Works. He retired in 1991 following a career that spanned thirty-five years with the steel producer.
He was a member of United Steelworker’s Local #1104 whose hobbies included league bowling, and softball. In his earlier years he was a standout pitcher on the U.S. Steel slow-pitch softball team.
Mr. Martinez is survived by his wife of thirty-two years Joyce M. (nee Pavlich), daughter Jill Coleman of Amherst, sons Curt and Scott Martinez both residing in Florida, mother Clara (nee Oyervides) Martinez of Laredo, Texas, six grandchildren, and sisters Consuelo Connie Schouster and Carmen M. Nieto both of Lorain, along with Lupe Mejia residing in Laredo Texas.
Family memorial services were conducted Friday in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel with Sister Rita Costello representing New Life Hospice officiating.
