Robert Kipp Young, 91, Engineer
Robert Kipp Young, 91, of Vermilion, died Friday, March 30, 2007 in Lake Pointe Health Center after a lengthy illness.He was born June 15, 1915 in Lorain. He has been a Vermilion resident for 61 years.
He worked as an engineer for US Steel for 31 1/2 years, retiring in 1972. He had worked for the County of Lorain from 1938-1940 and participated in the construction of the High Level and Bascule Bridges.
He was a Captain in the United States Army Air Corps serving during WWII as a meteorologist.
He graduated from Ohio Northern University. He was a member of the Ohio Society of Professional Engineers, and Sigma Phi Fraternity. He played on the Friday Couples League at Thunderbird Golf Course and as a young adult played softball.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Louise (nee Thompson); 2 sons, Peter Kipp Young of Corydon, Indiana, and Jonathan Graham Young of Vermilion; 2 grandchildren; and 2 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William B. and Grace (nee Kipp) Young and by sister, Allison Grace Fauver in 1972.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, April 3, 2007 at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion, Ohio from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.
