Janet 'Jay' Haggerty, 66, Lorain Salvation Army Retiree

Janet “Jay” Haggerty, age 66, of Avon, died Tuesday April 10, 2007 at the Good Samaritan Nursing Home following an extended illness.

She was born in Medford, Massachusetts on August 2, 1940 and had been a resident of Lorain County since 1958 coming from her native Massachusetts.

Janet graduated from Lowell Vocational School in Lowell, Massachusetts in 1958 with a Diploma in Household Arts.

She was employed by the Lorain Salvation Army as a sales associate in its Thrift Store and later as a custodian in the Salvation Army Church Center located at 2506 Broadway. She retired in 2002.

In her free time she enjoyed watching baseball and following the Cleveland Indians.

Survivors include her son James of Elyria, her guardian Colette Haggerty also of Elyria, brother Paul Haggerty of Avon, sisters Joanne Jones of Lorain and Patricia “Patty” Crowe of Kenmore, New York, along with a number of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father John Haggerty, Sr. in 1991, by her mother Freda Haggerty (nee Kayser) in 2006, and by her brother John Haggerty, Jr. in 1986.

Visitation will be Friday, April 13, 2007, from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel – 3224 Broadway Avenue – Lorain. Funeral services will be Saturday at 10:00 a.m. in the funeral chapel with the Reverend Gaetano Mennegatto, C.S.J. officiating. Burial will take place later in Medford Massachusetts.
