Sherman W. Tyree, 65, USS/Kobe Retiree, High School Valedictorian
Sherman W. Tyree, 65, of Lorain, died Thursday April 19, 2007 at Community Regional Medical Center in Lorain after a short illness.He was born January 21, 1942 in Lorain and had resided in the Sheffield Village and Lorain areas all of his life.
Sherman was a 1960 graduate of Brookside High School in Sheffield Village where he was valedictorian of his class, played football, basketball and the drums. He attended Fenn College in Cleveland.
Sherman served with the US Air Force during the Vietnam War as an Airman First Class.
He worked at USS/Kobe Steel in Lorain as an Electrical Engineer Manager in the bar mill for over 36 years retiring in 2002. He traveled to Japan and London, England to study the electrical designs of their steel mills and helped to design the electrical system in the Lorain bar mills.
Sherman enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren, working crossword puzzles and traveling.
He is survived by his wife of 25 years Rita Tyree (nee Pruitt), daughter Jennifer Gordon of Northfield, New Jersey, sons: Jeffrey Heitzenrater of Olmsted Township, Jonathan W. Tyree of Lorain and Joseph D. Tyree of Federal Way, Washington, mother Major A. Tyree (nee Riley) of Sheffield Village, 8 grandchildren, brothers Dallas R. Tyree of Lorain and Everett Tyree of Oberlin and sister Linda K. Tyree of Sheffield Village.
He was preceded in death by his daughter Diane Sue Bering and father Dallas M. Tyree.
The family will receive friends Monday, April 23, 2007, from 4-8 PM at the Gluvna Shimo Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave., Lorain where funeral services will be held Tuesday at 10:00 AM. The Rev. Walter Spieth, pastor of First Baptist Church in LaGrange, will officiate. Military honors will be conducted by the Disabled American Veterans Louis Paul Proy Chapter #20 of Lorain. Cremation will follow.
