Leo A. Speer Sr., 68, Retired Semi Truck Owner & Operator
Leo A. Speer, Sr. 68, of Elyria died on Sunday, April 22, 2007, at The Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland following a long illness.Mr. Speer was born in Norwalk, Ohio on April 27, 1937. He has lived in the Lorain County area for more than 21 years. He was a US Air Force veteran serving from 1955 to 1957 as an airman third class.
He was a retired semi truck owner & operator, retiring in 2005 from Jonick Trucking in Sheffield. He had driven truck for 43 years.
Mr. Speer enjoyed crossword puzzles, watching professional wrestling, NASCAR races and listening to country music.
He is survived by his wife Beverly, (nee Layport) Speer to whom he was married on September 14, 1958. Also surviving is son: Leo A. Speer, Jr. of Nancy, KY., Ernest E. Speer, Jay D. Speer, Lee A. Speer, John R. Speer all of Elyria, Steven A. Speer of Washington, WVA, 22 grandchildren, four great grandchildren, brothers Lee A. Speer of Croydon, PA, Terry Speer, Jerry Speer both of Dowagiac, MI, sisters Carol Floyd of Picayune, MISS, Sandy Murwine of Ashland PA, and Linda Mills of Tampa, FL.
He was preceded in death by an infant son at birth, William John Speer, his parents, Lee A. and Cora (nee Munger) Speer and a sister Leatha A. Speer. Friends may call on Monday, April 30, 2007, from 11:00 a.m. until services at 1:00 p.m. at the Schwartz, Spence, Boyer & Cool Home For Funerals, 1124 W. 5th Street, Lorain. Rev. Charles Keesee, pastor of Midway Baptist Church will officiate.
Burial will be in Westwood Cemetery Oberlin with full military honors provided by VFW Post 451 and the American Legion Post # 30 of Lorain.
