William 'Bill' R. Murdy, 76, Enjoyed the Outdoors
William Bill R. Murdy, 76 years of age and a resident of Amherst, passed away Tuesday evening, April 24, 2007 at New Life Hospice Residential Center in Lorain following a brief illness.He was born March 1, 1931 in Elyria. He was raised in Amherst where he graduated from Amherst High School with the class of 1949. He has been a lifetime resident of Amherst.
He served in the US Air Force from 1951 to 1955 as an Air Craft Instructor for B29s, B36s and jet fighters with both propeller and jet engines. Bill was employed with the former B.F. Goodrich Chemical in Avon Lake, now Poly 1, for thirty-four years retiring in management as a senior scheduler. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Amherst, and the Amherst Stonington Masonic Lodge #503, and the Amherst SGR club. His hobbies included camping, hunting, fishing and spending time outdoors especially at the Berlin Heights Holiday Park.
Survivors include his wife of fifty-six years, Ruth Murdy (nee: Frederick); his son Randal Murdy of Amherst, his daughter Linda Lukachko of Lorain, five grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and his sister Hazel St. Peter of South Amherst.
He was preceded in death by his parents William Franklin and Anna Murdy (nee: Holzhauer).
Services will be held privately by the family with the Rev. Terrance Adamson, pastor of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Amherst, officiating. Burial will be in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst.
