Mary Ann Balog, 85, Enjoyed Cooking & Traveling

Mary Ann Balog (nee: Smith), 85 years of age, and a lifetime resident of South Amherst, passed away Saturday, May 5, 2007 at her home following a brief illness.

She was born May 18, 1921 in Amherst. She was raised and lived her entire life with her family in South Amherst.

During World War II, she was employed at US Automatic for a brief time. Mary was a member of Nativity Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in South Amherst where she was active with the Altar and Rosary Society. She enjoyed spending her time cooking, traveling with family and being with her grandchildren.

Survivors include her daughter Mrs. Ronald (Karen) Busser and her son Mr. James M. Balog both of South Amherst, three grandchildren; and one great grandson.

She was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-two years, James S. Balog on February 24, 1994; by her parents, Joseph and Anna Smith (nee: Koziol) as well as by her brothers Michael, Leo, Walter and Joseph Smith; and by her sisters Sophie Glowaski and Helene Keisler.

Friends may call Tuesday, May 08, 2007, from 4-9 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home, 373 Cleveland Avenue, Amherst. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 9, 2007 beginning with prayers at 9:30 a.m. at the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. from Nativity Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church; 333 South Lake Street, South Amherst. The Rev. Fr. Denis St. Marie, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Amherst.

The family suggests that memorials contributions be made to CHP Regional Foundation/New Life Hospice, 3700 Kolbe Road, Lorain, Ohio 44053.
