Edward Murray, 76, Enjoyed Fishing and Traveling

Photo of Edward Murray Edward Murray, age 76, of Lorain, died Thursday May 17, 2007 at University Hospitals of Cleveland following a brief illness.

Mr. Murray was born in County Cavan, Ireland on September 21, 1930 and had been a resident of Lorain since 1963. From 1952 until the time of their arrival in Lorain, he and his family had been residents of Ontario, Canada.

Mr. Murray began work at the age of twelve. While residing in Canada he was employed as a miner with the International Nickel Company of Sudbury, Ontario for eleven years. After relocating to Ohio, he was employed as a molder and later as a shipper for the American Crucible Johnson-Mattal Company of Lorain. He retired in 1993 following a career that spanned thirty years with the manufacturer.

He was a parishioner of Saint Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Lorain and was a former member of the Holy Name Society there. He enjoyed following civic affairs and was a regular attendee of Lorain City Council meetings. He was also a member of the American Crucible Johnson-Mattal Retiree’s Club.

In his free time Ed enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, lake fishing, and traveling to his family’s seasonal residence in Quebec, Canada.

He is survived by his wife of fifty years Anne Marie (nee Gosselin), son Edward D. Murray of Canton, daughters Barbara Anne Scrofano and Caroline K. Feldkamp, both of Lorain, Eileen E. Mann of Grafton Township, grandchildren Daniel Allen Scrofano, Anne Terese Scrofano, Anthony Patrick Scrofano, Alyssa A. Feldkamp, Jonathan T. Feldkamp, Natalie A. Feldkamp, Cicily M. Murray, Edward L. Murray, and Casey C. Murray, brothers Lawrence Murray of Sudbury, Ontario, James Murray of Winnipeg, Manitoba, sisters Kathleen Kurzinger and Margaret Janeczek both of Sudbury, Ontario, Bridget Ripley of Chelmsford, Ontario, and Mary Downey of Buckingham, Quebec.

He was preceded in death by his parents Edward and Elizabeth (nee Gaffney) Murray, and by a sister Roseann Murray.

Friends may call Sunday, May 20, 2007, from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel – 3224 Broadway Avenue- Lorain. Funeral services will be Monday beginning at 9:30 in the funeral chapel and will be followed by the celebration of his funeral mass at 10:00 a.m. in Saint Anthony of Padua Catholic Church – 1305 East Erie Avenue –Lorain. The Reverend Joseph West, O.F.M. Conv. Pastor of Saint Anthony Parish will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery – Lorain.
