Blanche M. Fundak, 95, O'Neil's/May Co. Retiree

Photo of Blanche M.  Fundak Blanche M. Fundak (nee Krawczyk-Surgalski), 95, of Lorain, died Friday May 18, 2007 at University Hospital in Cleveland after a brief illness.

She was born October 10, 1911 in Bulger, Pennsylvania and had resided in Lorain all of her life.

As a youth Blanche worked at her family grocery store on Elyria Avenue in Lorain. Later she worked in the cafeteria at St. Joseph Hospital in Lorain. She also worked at General Industries in Elyria and at the Lorain Garment Company. She retired from O’Neil’s/May Company in 1974 where she worked as a sales associate for 25 years.

Blanche attended St. Stanislaus School in Lorain and was a member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church. When she was married she and her husband Paul traveled from Lorain to Seattle, Washington and back in a Model T Ford on their honeymoon.

She enjoyed spending time with her family, polka dancing, vegetable gardening, traveling and taking camping trips around the country, sewing, reading, cooking Polish foods and her cats and dogs.

She is survived by her daughters Pauline “Polly” Fundak-Furr and Carol Fundak-Collins, M.D., both of Westlake, granddaughters Caroline J. Collins, Jennifer C. Collins and Cristen E. Collins, all of Westlake and half sister Agnes Kopco of Lorain. She was preceded in death by her husband of 73 years Paul E. Fundak on May 29, 2003, father Anthony Surgalski, mother Anna Surgalski-Krawczyk (nee Regalski), stepfather Joseph S. Krawczyk, sisters Jennie, Kate, Stella Wapon and Josephine Morrison, brothers Ben Surgalski and Joseph Surgalski and half brothers Joseph Krawczyk and Ben Krawczyk.

The family will receive friends Friday 6-8 p.m. at the Gluvna Shimo Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave., Lorain where funeral services will be held Saturday at 10:30 a.m. followed by the mass of Christian Burial Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, 2702 Elyria Ave., Lorain. The Rev. David A. Novak, parish administrator, will officiate. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery in Avon.
