Richard T. Roule, 74, Teacher, Coach, Faculty Manager, Councilman

Photo of Richard  T. Roule Richard T. Roule, 74, of Lorain, died Friday May 18, 2007 at New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph in Lorain after a lengthy illness.

He was born August 21, 1932 in Marianna, Pennsylvania and had resided in Lorain since 1962.

Dick was a graduate of West Bethlehem Township High School in 1950 where he played football and basketball. He was All WPIAL in football his junior and senior year and All WPIAL in basketball his senior year.

He served with the US Navy during the Korean War and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal.

He attended Washington & Jefferson College in Washington, Pennsylvania and then California University in California, Pennsylvania where he graduated in 1959 with a Bachelor Degree majoring in Education. He also attended Bowling Green State University, Western Michigan and Ohio University.

Dick taught and coached football and basketball at Beth Center High School from 1959-1961 and then worked for the B& O Railroad. After moving to Lorain he taught and coached at Whittier Junior High from 1961-1969 and then at Southview High School from 1969-1988 where he was on the football coaching staff from 1969-1971 and was a faculty manager. As a coach he won several championships in Pennsylvania and at Whittier in Lorain.

Dick served as a Ward 1 councilman for many years. He was an avid bowler and bowled in several leagues at Rebman Recreation in Lorain and North Coast Shoreway Lanes in Sheffield Lake. He enjoyed fishing and was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers, Pittsburgh Pirates, Cleveland Indians and Cleveland Cavaliers fan.

He was a member of the American Legion #744 in Marianna, Pennsylvania, AMVETS #47 of Lorain, IAV Post #1 of Lorain, the American Slovak Club and the Slovenian Home.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years Mary Gail Roule (nee Lowden), sons Richard “Scott” Roule and Baron Roule, both of Lorain, daughter Heather Roule of Lorain, sisters Mary Kay Cronin and Margaret Roule, both of Marianna, Pennsylvania, grandchildren, Sally, Spencer, Ricky, Jake, Sydney, Branson and Rileigh and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Timothy & Catherine Roule (nee Niverth).

The family will receive friends Tuesday 4-9 PM and Wednesday from 10:00 AM until the time of funeral services at 11:00 AM at the Gluvna Shimo Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave., Lorain. The Rev. John Ferris, pastor of Delaware Avenue Methodist Church in Lorain will officiate. Burial will follow in Resthaven Memory Gardens Cemetery in Avon where the Disabled American Veterans Louis Paul Proy Chapter #20 of Lorain will conduct military honors.
