Evelyn Vanek, 91, Enjoyed Gardening
Evelyn Vanek (nee: Johnson), 91, of Sheffield Lake, died Monday June 4, 2007 at Avon Oaks Nursing Home in Avon after a brief illness.
She was born June 7, 1915 in Earlington, Kentucky and had resided in Sheffield Lake most of her life.
Evelyn enjoyed gardening, bingo and embroidery.
She is survived by her sons: Dale Vanek of Oberlin, Robert Vanek of Elyria and Charles Vanek, Jr. of Sheffield Lake, daughters: Marilyn Counts of LaGrange, Sharon Hodge of Lorain and Kathleen Gillespie of Sheffield Lake, 23 grandchildren and many great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Charles Vanek, Sr., daughter Linda Christian, a grandson, parents William & Jesse Johnson (nee Taylor), brothers Billy Johnson and Joe Johnson and sisters Mildred Vanek and Marguerite Smiley.
The family will receive friends Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of funeral services at 11:00 a.m. at Gluvna Shimo Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave., Lorain. The Rev. Bob Daugherty will officiate. Burial will follow in Resthaven Memory Gardens Cemetery in Avon.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be made in her name to Avon Oak Nursing Home, Activities Fund, 37800 French Creek Rd, Avon, OH. 44011.
