Charles P. Giglio, 87, Ford Retiree, WWII & Korean War Vet

Charles P. Giglio, 87, of Lorain, died Sunday June 17, 2007 at New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph in Lorain after a short illness.

He was born January 4, 1920 in Boston, Massachusetts and had resided in Lorain since 1963.

Chuck worked with the Civilian Conservation Corps in Washington State. Then he served with the US Army during World War II with Battery I 68th Coastal Artillery Anti-aircraft Division. He was stationed in Sicily, Tunisia, Naples-Foggia and Rome-Arno and was awarded the European-African Middle Eastern Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. He also served in the Korean War and was awarded the Korean Service Medal with 3 Bronze Stars and the United Nations Service Medal.

He worked at the Ford Assembly Plant in Lorain in maintenance for 24 years retiring in 1982.

Chuck was a member of American Legion Post #30 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #451 both of Lorain. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and casino bus trips.

He is survived by his daughters Susan Kiwan and Patricia Cavallo, both of Boston, Massachusetts, Teresa Camera of Amherst and Carol Giglio of Lorain, son Frank Giglio of Lorain, 11 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, sisters Mary Pinto and Rose Giglio, both of Boston, Massachusetts and brother Frank Giglio of Tamarack, Florida. He was preceded in death by his wife of 41 years Adelia Giglio (nee Bush) in 1994, sons Charles V. Giglio in 2005 and James Giglio in 2006, parents Francesco & Carmella Giglio (nee LaValle) and brothers James Giglio in World War II, Patrick Giglio and Vincenzo Giglio.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, June 19, 2007 from 7-9 PM at the Gluvna Shimo Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave., Lorain where funeral services will be held Wednesday at 10:30 AM. The Rev. Mr. Martin Ortiz, deacon of Sacred Heart Chapel in Lorain, will officiate. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park in Amherst Township where the American Legion Post #30 and VFW Post #451, both of Lorain, will conduct military honors.
