Paul G. Stavesky, Sr., 88, US Steel Retiree, Life Member of VFW#451

Paul G. Stavesky, Sr., 88, of Lorain, died Friday June 29, 2007 while under the care of New Life Hospice at Amherst Manor Nursing Home in Amherst after a short illness.

He was born March 16, 1919 in Lorain and had been a lifelong resident of Lorain.

Paul served with the US Army during World War II as a private first class.

He worked at US Steel in Lorain as a foreman for 30 years retiring in 1970.

Paul was a member of St. Mary of the Lake Catholic Church in Lorain, a life member of VFW Post #451 on Lorain, a past member of Amvets Post #22 in Vermilion, a member of the US Steel Management Club, the Polish Fisherman’s Club and Lorain Senior Fellowship. He enjoyed gardening.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years Ida M. Stavesky (nee Botos), daughters Patricia Turza of Bullard, Texas and Kathleen Bucci of Lorain, sons Paul G. Stavesky, Jr of Lorain, John W. Stavesky of Swansboro, North Carolina and William Stavesky of Tamarac, Florida, 11 grandchildren, 2 step grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, brother Ralph Staveski of Amherst and sister Wilma Mucha of Lorain. He was preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Pauline Staveski (nee Kaplo), brothers Alvin, Raymond, Carl and Clarence and sisters Helen Zan, Mary Scott and Virginia Chovanec.

The family will receive friends Monday 5-9 p.m. at the Gluvna Shimo Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave., Lorain. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral chapel followed by the mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary of the Lake Catholic Church, 310 8th St., Lorain. The Rev. Daniel O. Divis, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Lorain where VFW Post #451 & American Legion Post # 30, both of Lorain, will conduct military honors.
