James P. Mutnansky, 50, Marine Corps Veteran, Active in Veterans Affairs

James P. Mutnansky, 50, of Lorain, died Friday, July 6, 2007 at his home after a lengthy illness.

He was born February 7, 1957 in Lorain and had lived most of his life in Lorain. He had resided in California for 5 years.

James attended St. John Catholic School in Lorain and was a 1975 graduate of Lorain Catholic High School.

He served with the US Marine Corps from 1975-1978 as a Lance Corporal in the Anti-Tank Assault Unit. He was awarded the Rifle Sharpshooter Badge, Pistol Marksman Badge, Meritorious Mast and Good Conduct Medal.

James had worked at Hughes Aircraft Center in California and later managed several gas stations in the Westlake area.

He was active in veteran’s affairs and was a member of VFW Post #451 and the American Legion Post #30 both in Lorain.

He is survived by his son David Mutnansky of Elyria Township, daughter Jamie Mutnansky of Lorain, granddaughter Alysa Mutnansky of Elyria Township, brothers Martin Mutnansky of New London and Pete Mutnansky of Kipton, sisters Cheryl Mutnansky of Norwalk, Stephanie Landy of Norwalk and Mary Wheeler of Loveland, stepmother Jean Mutnansky of New London and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents James and Florence Mutnansky (nee Jara) and nephew Jesse Landy.

The family will receive friends Monday 7-9 p.m. at the Gluvna Shimo Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave, Lorain. A funeral mass will be held on Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 18 Park Ave., New London. Burial with full military honors will be held on Tuesday at 12:30 p.m. in the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, 10175 Rawiga Rd., Rittman.
