Eugene T. Hlusko, 83, Black River Township Volunteer Firefighter
Eugene T. Hlusko, age 83, of Sandusky, and former long-time Lorain resident, died Saturday July 14, 2007 at the Ohio Veterans Home in Perkins Township following an extended illness.Mr. Hlusko was born in Centerville, Pennsylvania on April 22, 1924 and was a graduate of South Union High School there.
He served as a Petty Officer 2nd Class with the United States Navy during World War II and was most recently employed as a lead plumber at the former Lorain Community Hospital. He had previously been employed by the Lorain Division of Koehring Company as well as the Fruehauf Trailer Company of Avon Lake.
Mr. Hlusko formerly attended St. Mary of the Lake Catholic Church in Lorain and had served as a volunteer firefighter with the Black River Township Fire Department. In his spare time he enjoyed tinkering with automobiles.
Survivors include daughters Laura Dembiec of Carlisle Township, and Debora Edds of Findlay, Ohio, three grandchildren, one great grandson, and a brother John Miklusek of York, Pennsylvania.
He was preceded in death by his wife Mary (nee Van Dyke) in 2000, by his parents Andy and Helen (nee: Yesteapsky) Hlusko, by his step-father John Miklusek, by brothers Andrew and William Hlusko, and by a sister Ann Hanchin.
Graveside services will be conducted Saturday, July 28, 2007 at 10:30 a.m. in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township. Joint military honors will be conducted by the officers and member of Mullen-Murray Post # 451 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion Post # 30 both of Lorain.
