Raymond Hunady, 64, Lorain Fire Fighter & EMT; Active in Church

Raymond Hunady, 64, of Lorain, died Tuesday July 17, 2007 while under the care of New Life Hospice at his home after a short illness.

He was a life long resident of Lorain and a 1960 graduate of Lorain High School. He served in the US Army as a military policeman from 1960 to 1963 in Korea.

Ray worked as a Fire Fighter and E.M.T. for the city of Lorain retiring in 1994 and was one of the first E.M.T’s with the fire department.

He was active in the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #8686 in Sheffield Lake where he served as Commander for 4 years and Quartermaster for 1 year. He was also active in the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Service.

Ray was an active member of Cornerstone United Methodist Church in Elyria where he served as a church trustee, was head usher and served on the Pastor Parish Relations Committee and Building Committee. He enjoyed golf and big game hunting.

He is survived by his wife of 30 years Sharon (nee Bain), daughter Wendy Hildebrandt of Vermilion, brothers Dr. Ronald J. Hunady and Denis P. Hunady, both of North Carolina, 4 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Frank J. and Mary E. Hunady (nee Pribanic).

The family will receive friends Friday 4-8 p.m. at the Gluvna Shimo Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave., Lorain. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at Cornerstone United Methodist Church, 2949 W. River Rd. N, Elyria. The Rev. Dale Warrick, pastor, will officiate. Burial with military honors will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park in Amherst Township.
