Raymond B. Hodkey, 85, American Crucible Retiree

Raymond B. Hodkey, 85, of Sheffield Township, died Thursday July 19, 2007 at his home.

He was born May 26, 1922 in Lorain and had resided in the Sheffield Township/Lorain area all of his life.

Ray was a graduate of the Lorain High School Class of 1941B. He served with the US Army during World War II as a Second Lieutenant and was awarded the American Theater Service Medal, European African Middle Eastern Service Medal and WWII Victory Medal.

Ray worked at American Crucible for 42 years as Personnel and Time Study Manager and retired in 1985.

He was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Elyria Township and served as an advisor for Junior Achievement in Lorain. He enjoyed woodworking and spending time with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years Eleanor M. Hodkey (nee Jones), sons Kenneth P. Hodkey of Rocky River and Gary L. Hodkey of Elyria, daughter Kathy L. McCartney of Lorain, 3 granddaughters, 1 step granddaughter and sister Clara Novak of Lorain. He was preceded in death by his parents Frank and Alice Hodkey (nee Jaworski), brothers Ambrose Hodkey in infancy, Emanuel Hodkey and Aloysius “Eli” Hodkey and sister Lillian Popovich.

The family will receive friends Monday 4-8 p.m. at the Gluvna Shimo Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave., Lorain where prayer services will be held Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. followed by the mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 41295 N. Ridge Rd., Elyria. The Rev. James Ols, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Lorain.
