Ruth E. ''Ruthie'' Svorec, 83, Standout Folinsby High School Athlete
Ruth E. Ruthie Svorec, (nee Morgan), age 83, of Lorain, died Wednesday, July 25th, 2007 at Community Health Partners Hospital and Surgical Center following an illness of two weeks.She was born in Windsor Heights, Brooke County, West Virginia on September 18, 1923 and was a graduate of Folinsby High School. She was a standout guard on the girl’s basketball team there and was a multiple varsity letter recipient. She had been a resident of Lorain since 1941 coming from her native West Virginia.
During the war effort of World War II, Ruthie was employed as a munitions assembler at the National Tube Company in Lorain.
She was a parishioner of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Lorain whose hobbies included sewing, flower and vegetable gardening, and spending time with her children and grandchildren. She was also an avid sports fan and ardent follower of the Cleveland Cavaliers and Cleveland Indians. Additional interests included taking trips to nearby casinos with her favorite destination being the Greektown Casino in Detroit, Michigan.
Mrs. Svorec is survived by daughters Sharon Zilka of Avon, Linda Lumby of South Amherst, and Lois Weekley of Lorain along with eleven grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Steve J. Svorec in 2001, by her parents Evan and Frankie (nee Batton) Morgan, and seven brothers and sisters.
Visitation will be Sunday, July 29, 2007, from 3:00 6:00 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel. 3224 Broadway Avenue, Lorain. Funeral services will be Monday beginning with closing prayers offered in the funeral chapel at 9:30 a.m. and will be followed by the celebration of a funeral mass at 10:00 a.m. in Holy Trinity Catholic Church, 2428 Elyria Avenue, Lorain. The Reverend David A. Novak, Pastor of Holy Trinity Church will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
