Helen Stojanovich, 84, Enjoyed Baking Ethnic Specialties

Photo of Helen Stojanovich Helen Stojanovich (nee Peters) 84 of Lorain died Saturday, August 18, 2007 in Avon Oaks Caring Community following a lengthy illness.

She was born August 9, 1923 in Bitola Macedonia. She with her family immigrated to Cleveland in 1925. She resided there for 27 years before moving to Lorain in 1952.

Mrs. Stojanovich retired in 1985 as a cashier from Sparkle Market in Amherst. She worked there for 16 years. Prior to that, she was a short order cook and waitress at lunch counter at the Gray Drug Store in Sheffield Township for 13 years. In 1969 Mrs. Stojanovich was the first woman nationwide to be hired by McDonald's restaurants.

She was a active member of Saints Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church, Lorain, and the church's Women's Guild. She was also a member of Conicans Widow and Widowers club, Elyria. She enjoyed baking ethnic specialties incliding Zelnik.

Among the survivors are her daughters Patricia Sandrock (nee Pavloff) of Columbus and Cheri Mihalko of Lorain. 3 grandchildren and 1 great granddaughter and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by husband of 25 years Dimitry in 1977; her parents Christ and Lena Peters and a sister Nora Parkevich.

Friends may call Tuesday, August 21, 2007, 3:00 to 5:00 and 6:00 to 9:00 PM at the Richard J. Reidy Funeral Home, 1783 East 31st Street, South Lorain, Ohio, were Parastas service will be 7:30 PM Tuesday, evening. Funeral service will be Wednesday, August , 22, 2007, 10:00 AM in Saints Cyril and Methodius Orthodox Church, Mister Road and Reeves Avenue, Lorain. Reverend Paul Monkowski, Pastor will officiate. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery, Lorain.
