Nereida Gonzalez, 87, Enjoyed crocheting, playing bingo and gardening

She was born May 15, 1920 in Cabo Rojo, Puerto Rico. She came to Lorain in 1950 and lived here until moving to Pinellas Park in 1975.

Mrs. Gonzalez retired in 1987 as a housekeeper for Northside Hospital, in Pinellas Park. She worked there for eleven years. She has also worked as a housekeeper for 10 years at Avon Oaks Nursing Home until 1975.

She was a member of Sacred Heart Church in Pinellas Park and a former member of Sacred Heart Chapel, Lorain. She enjoyed crocheting, playing bingo, flower, and vegetable gardening, collecting porcelain dolls, Spanish music, game shows, and Spanish soap operas.

Among the survivors are her husband of 62 years Manuel Antonio Gonzalez of Pinellas Park; sons Manuel Antonio Gonzalez, Jr. of Elyria, Freddy Gonzalezof Lorain and David Gonzalez of Saint Petersburg, Florida; daughters Leida Gonzalez - Huey of Frisco, Texas, Elsie Garcia of Amherst Township and Daisy Gonzalez of Lorain; 15 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and 1 great great granddaughter.

She was preceded in death by her parents Juan Figueroa and Maria Teresa Vazquez; a daughter Santita Figueroa Gonzalez; brothers Felix and Wilfredo Figueroa and an aunt Monin Vazquez.

Friends may call Tuesday, August 28, 2007, 4:00 to 8:00 PM at the Richard J. Reidy Funeral Home, 1783 East 31st Street, South Lorain, Ohio. Funeral services will be Wednesday, August 29 2007 with closing prayers at the funeral home at 9:15 AM followed by Mass of the Resurrection at 10:00 AM at Sacred Heart Chapel, 4301 Pearl Avenue, South Lorain. Reverend, Father William A. Thaden, Pastor will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
