Arpad ''Art'' Toth, 82, Retired Policeman
Arpad "Art" Toth, 82 of Lorain died unexpectedly on September 2, 2007 at Community Health Partners Regional Health Center.Mr. Toth was born in Lorain, OH on June 11, 1925 and lived his entire life in the Lorain area. He was a graduate of Lorain High School. He served as a MP for the United States Marine Corp from 1945-1946. He was a member of the St. John's United Church of Christ in Lorain.
For 31 years, Mr. Toth served as a policemsn for the city of Lorain, retiring in 1982. He was instrumental in creating Lorain's Safety Town. He served as administrative assistant to the Chief of Police for many years. He was well known for serving as the press box guard for football games at the Old George Daniel's Stadium.
Mr. Toth was a member of the Veterans of Foreign War Post # 1079 Elyria, Disabled American Veterans Louis Proy Post # 20, Amvets Post # 47, F & AM Mid-Century Lodge # 725, Queen City Chapter of Eastern Star, and Lorain Fraternal Order of Police Lodge # 3.
He enjoyed fishing, bowling, photography, playing bingo and spending time with his grandchildren.
Mr. Toth is survived by two daughters Cindi G. Price of Lorain, Veronica Vines of Midway, GA, and three grandchildren Jennie, Thomas and Cory. He was preceded in death by his wife Nora Mae Toth (nee Pelton), his parents Gabor and Veronika (Bado) Toth, sister Irene Stanziano, brothers Charles Toth, Gabor Toth, and Alex Toth.
Friends may call Thursday, September 6, 2007 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at Schwartz, Spence, Boyer & Cool Home For Funerals, 1124 W. 5th Street, Lorain, Ohio. Mid-Century Masonic Lodge will conduct memorial services at 7:30 PM.
Funeral Services in the Funeral Home will be at 11:00 AM on Friday, September 7th. Burial will be in Ridge Hill Memorial Park Cemetery Amherst Township. Full military burial honors will be provided jointly by American Legion Post # 30 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 451.
