Elizabeth �Betty� Jones, 92, Active Member of St. Joseph Catholic Church

Elizabeth “Betty” Jones (nee Marshall), 92, of Carlsbad, New Mexico and formerly of Lorain died Tuesday September 11, 2007 at Lakeview Nursing Home in Carlsbad after a long illness.

She was born April 25, 1915 in Lorain and had resided in Hobbs, New Mexico for several years after moving in 1989 from Lorain. She moved to Carlsbad in 2005 where she most recently resided at Lakeview Assisted Living and Nursing Home.

Betty was an active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Lorain where she served as the church secretary, was a Eucharistic Minister and a member and past president of the Ladies Guild. She was a member of the Secular Franciscan Order of St. John Vianney, a CCD teacher, a member of Gentle Woman Organization of St. Clarence Church in Cleveland, the Legion of Mary, volunteer minister at Autumn Aegis Nursing Home in Lorain and Amherst Manor Nursing Home, a volunteer with the American Cancer Society, a member of the ladies auxiliary #314 of Knights of St. John, the Sacred Heart Society of St. Peter Catholic Church and a volunteer with Head Start.

While living in New Mexico she was a secular Franciscan in the fraternity of St. Fabian, a volunteer at the hospital and Hobbs Home Care, a member of the bereavement committee at St. Helena’s Catholic Church in Hobbs, New Mexico and the St. Francis Guild of the church and a member of the St. Rita’s Guild and Altar Society. Betty helped form a chapter of Pro-Life in Hobbs, New Mexico and was the former chairperson of “Help-A-Child” of the National Council of Catholic Women. She was a volunteer at the cancer center in Hobbs, New Mexico and a member of the National Federation of Grandmothers & the Little Poor Ones of New Mexico.

She is survived by her son Dr. Ronald Jones and his wife Judith of Carlsbad, New Mexico, 3 grandchildren Jennifer Leigh Jones of San Diego, California, Jacqueline Causby of North Carolina and Rhonda Resetar of Michigan, 5 great grandchildren and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Earle R. Jones in 1984, daughter Roberta Jean “Bobbie” Jones in 1966, parents Julius & Martha Marshall (nee Kutz), brothers Albert Marshall, Alfred Marshall, Alex Marshall and Edward Marshall.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday October 6th at 10:00 a.m. at Calvary Cemetery, 555 N. Ridge Rd. in Lorain. Rev. Mr. Louis Maldonado, deacon of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Lorain, will officiate.
