George H. Schrull, 89, Black River Water Treatment Facility Operator

Photo of George H. Schrull George H. Schrull, age 89, of Amherst, died Monday September 24, 2007 at the Life Care Center of Elyria following a brief illness. Mr. Schrull was born in Camden, New Jersey on June 8, 1918 and had been a resident of Amherst since 1986; he had previously resided in Lorain for many years.

He was a World War II Veteran of the United States Army. He fulfilled duty assignments as a Technician Fifth Grade assigned to Company A of the 1303 Engineer GS Regiment. He participated in campaigns throughout the Ardennes, Central Europe, Normandy, Northern France, and the Rhineland. George was the recipient of the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal as well as the Good Conduct Medal. He was a long-time member of Amvets Post # 47 in Lorain.

Mr. Schrull was employed by the Lorain Utilities Department as an operator at the Black River Water Treatment Facility. He retired in June of 1983 after a career that spanned more than a quarter century with the municipality. He also formerly worked in a part-time capacity as a stocker for the Meyer Goldberg Store in Lorain.

George attended Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lorain and was a member of both U.S.W.A. Local 6621 and U.F.C.W. Local # 880.

An avid fan of the Cleveland Indians, he enjoyed gardening and bird-watching.

Survivors include sons John A. Schrull of High Point, North Carolina, Mike Schrull of Lagrange, and Mark E. Schrull of Lorain, three grandchildren, and two great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Marge (nee McCullough) in 1995, by a son Jack W. Schrull also in 1995, by his parents Andrus and Hulda (nee Schiemann) Schrull, by brothers Al and John, and by sisters Hilda, Emma, Mary, and Freda.
