Margaret E. Maher, 95, Enjoyed Bowling & Cards

Photo of Margaret E. Maher Margaret E. Maher, 95 (nee Burkhart) of Lorain died early Friday morning, September 28, 2007 at the New Life Hospice Center at St. Joseph following a short illness.

Mrs. Maher was born in Lorain, OH on October 9, 1911. She graduated from St. Marys' Academy in 1930.

She was a member of St. Mary Church and St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church. She was also a member of the Franciscan Order. She was a licensed beautician retiring in 1982. She also worked as a sales clerk for the May Company in Sheffield and the J. C. Penny Company in Elyria.

Mrs. Maher enjoyed her family, bowling in several leagues and card playing, especially pinochle. She attended card parties regularly.

She is survived by her daughter Margaret "Peggy" Coon of Lorain, sons Terrance Maher of Vermilion, Dennis Maher of Amherst, 8 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, and a brother Gerald Johnson of Doylestown, OH.

She was preceded in death by her husband James H. Maher in 1989, son Patrick J. Maher in 1943, parents Albert and Katherine (nee Gralton) Burkhart, sisters Helen Cole, Mary Boras and brother Virgil Burkhart.

Friends may call on Monday, October 1, 2007 from 6-9 PM at the Schwartz, Spence, Boyer & Cool Home For Funerals, 1124 W. 5th Street, Lorian, Ohio 44052.

Funeral services will be on Tuesday, October 2, 2007 at 9:00 AM in the funeral home followed by a 9:30 AM Mass of Christian Burial in St. Mary Church, 8th & Reid Ave., Lorain, with Rev. Daniel O. Divis officiating.

Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.

The family suggests that memorial contributions may be made to the Franscian Order at St. Anthony of Padua Church, 1305 E. Erie Ave., Lorain, Ohio 44052.
