Edith ''Edie'' D. Dandrea, 52, Teacher

Photo of Edith ''Edie'' D. Dandrea Edith "Edie" D. Dandrea, age 52, (nee Kimmel) who fought a courageous six year battle with breast cancer, died peacefully with her family at her side on Friday, October 5, 2007.

Although we mourn her death, she left us with many special gifts of love and kindness.

Edie lived her entire life in Lorain, Ohio, graduating from Lorain High School in 1974. Upon graduating from Kent State University, she spent over 10 years with the Lorain County Department of Human Services as a caseworker. Later, she was a pre-school teacher at Little People’s Palace, a substitute teacher and tutor in the Lorain City School District, where she also taught a visually impaired class for a year. She had a special gentleness with children.

Once diagnosed with cancer, she became determined to fight it with dignity and courage. She believed her diagnosis gave her the strength to empathize with others and she did so with her interest and volunteering with the Lorain Community Century Club, The Friends of Lorain and at Hospice.

Family, friends, her home and her dogs were the most important things to Edie. She had a special bond and relationship with her mother.

Edie is survived by her loving husband Rick, son, Chase, daughter-in-law, Ashley, daughter, Kyle and son, Drew. She is also survived by her mother Mary Kimmel Bors, her sister Kyle Herndon Gaskell and nieces, nephews and cousins and In-laws.

She was preceded in death by her father, Herb Kimmel.

Calling hours will be from 4-8pm on Monday, October 8th at Schwartz, Spence, Boyer & Cool Funeral Home, 1124 W. Fifth Street in Lorain. A Celebration of Life for Edie will be held at 11 A.M. on Tuesday, October 9th at the First Congregational Church, 423 Washington Ave. in Lorain, where she worshipped. The Rev. Carl Richter, her pastor, will officiate.
