Rose Huszti, 93, Co-Owned Huszti's Cafe
Rose Huszti (nee Farkas), 93, of Lorain, died Friday October 5, 2007 at Avon Oaks Caring Community in Avon of natural causes.
She was born April 4, 1914 in Oros, Zemplen, Hungary and had resided in Lorain since 1920 moving from Hungary.
Along with her husband Joseph, she operated Huszti’s Café, a popular neighborhood bar in South Lorain, for many years. Prior to that she worked as a clerk at Kroger’s Grocery.
Rose was an active member of Hungarian Reformed United Church of Christ in Lorain where she served on the Busy Martha Guild, the Caring Circle, the Crafts Club and sang in the church choir. She taught Sunday school and was a social member of the Hungarian Sick Benefit Society.
Rose enjoyed gardening and was known for her beautiful rhododendron bushes at her home. She enjoyed needlepoint and made Danish linens and enjoyed cooking Hungarian foods.
She took great pride in the fact that both of her sons became professors of music. After Rose’s matron of honor died at a young age she became very close with her daughter Dolores Mikola Salva whom she treated as one of her own children.
She is survived by her sons Joseph Bela Huszti and his wife Melinda (nee Murray) of Irvine, California and Allen Warren Huszti and his late wife Sara (nee Keep) of Oberlin, 3 grandchildren Heather Christine Huszti of Huntington Beach, California, Douglas Allen Huszti of Brooklyn, New York and Hannah Elizabeth Vaughan of Buckingham, Virginia, 4 great grandchildren Margaret Vaughan, Emily Vaughan, Alexander Vaughan and Lia Huszti and sister Julia Kostyn of Elyria. She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years Joseph Maynard Huszti in 1998, parents Sandor and Julia Farkas (nee Illes), sister Blanche Albert and brother Alex Farkas.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday at 11:00 AM at Hungarian Reformed United Church of Christ, 1691 E. 31st St., Lorain. The Rev. Peter Toth, pastor, will officiate. Private burial will take place in Elmwood Cemetery in Lorain.
