Harry R. Barber, 88, Created L.O.V.E.

Mr. Barber was born in Pittsburgh, PA on February 26, 1919. He was a graduate of Clarksburg High School, in Clarksburg, West Virginia. He was a veteran of the US Army Signal Corp during WW II.
He retired after many years as a manager for Szabo Shoes in Rocky River.
Mr. Barber was a active member of Heritage Presbyterian Church in Amherst: served as an Elder and Trustee. He was instrumental in merging the former Westminster & Northminster Presbyterian Churches into the Hertiage Prebysterian Church.
He created and helped implement the Lorain Ohio Volunteers in Education (L.O.V.E.) Program in the Lorain City Schools, a program designed to pair volunteer senior citizens with students desiring additional instruction in reading. Mr. Barber was an avid writer of stories and letters, enjoyed camping, traveling and working at church.
He is survived by his daughters Cindy Barber of Cleveland, Cathy Barber of San Mateo, CA, son Tim Barber of Olmsted Township, 4 grandchildren, sister Lois Miller of Solon, Pat Campbell of Fontana, CA, brother William Barber of Upper Arlington.
He was preceded in death by his wife Margaret Jean (nee Porter) Barber, parents Harry R and Esther E ( nee Bechmann) Barber.
Graveside services will be held on Friday, October 12, 2007 at 1:00 PM in the Fort Steubin Burial Estates in Wintersville, Ohio. The Rev. Philip Makari will officiate. Friends may call Saturday, October 13, 2007 at 10:00 AM in the Heritage Presbyterian Church, 515 North Leavitt Road in Amherst followed by a Celebration Of Life in the church at 11:00 AM. The Rev. James E. Smucker, pastor will
officiate.
