Frederick M. Rock, 76, Centel Retiree
Fred Rock, 76, of Lorain, died Saturday October 20, 2007 at Community Regional Medical Center in Lorain after a long illness.He was born April 15, 1931 in Lorain and had been a lifelong Lorain area resident.
Fred served with the US Air Force during the Korean War for 4 years and was stationed in Germany for 3 years.
He worked at the Lorain Telephone Company and Centel in Lorain as a lineman and storeroom manager for 42 years before retiring. Fred also worked for Lorain City Schools for 10 years as a ticket taker at sporting events at Southview High School, Admiral King High School and George Daniel Field.
Fred was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Lorain where he served as an usher during mass and was a member of the Holy Name Society and Men’s Club. He volunteered with Lifeline in Lorain and was a member of American Legion Post #30 in Lorain, Senior Fellowship and the Independent Telecommunications Pioneers Association. He enjoyed bowling and participated in the St. Anthony bowling league for over 30 years.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years Elaine M. Rock (nee Ganobsek), daughter Michelle Elwer and her husband Bill of Elyria, son Michael Rock and his wife Carla of Lorain, daughter Melissa Munro and her husband Duncan of Middleburgh Heights and daughter Marsha DeAngelis and her husband Vince of Macedonia and 11 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents Frank and Esther Rock (nee Giese), sister Janice Anney and brother Frank Rock.
The family will receive friends Monday 4-8 pm at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Avenue, Lorain. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 10:30 AM in the funeral chapel followed by the mass of Christian Burial Tuesday at 11:00 AM at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, 1305 E. Erie Ave., Lorain. The Rev. Joseph West, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Lorain where VFW Post #451 & American Legion Post #30 of Lorain will conduct military honors.
