Albert Casmir Staskiews, 89, Honorably discharged in 1945
Albert Casmir Staskiews, 89, of Lorain, died Sunday October 21st at Community Health Partners Hospital, Lorain following a brief illness.He was born March 7, 1918 in Elyria and was a life-long resident of Lorain. He graduated from Elyria High School in 1936 and attended Fenn College. He served in the U.S Army (1941) and was honorably discharged in 1945. He was an expert rifleman and received one Bronze Star for "Heroic Achievement" in connection with military operations against the enemy in the vicinity of Aachen, Germany, Good Conduct Medal, American Defense Service Medal, Bronze Star Medal, World War II Victory Medal, European/African/Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with 2 Bronze Stars, and was awarded the "Purple Heart" Medal for wounds received in action.
He was employed by General Motors for 33 years as a General Foreman in
Quality Control and retired in 1980. He was an avid golfer for the majority of his life beginning as a caddy at a very early age. He was a member of Spring Valley Country Club where he participated in many tournaments winning numerous trophies and awards, and most recently at Oberlin Golf Club for over 20 years. He enjoyed yard work and reading in his leisure time.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 60 years Mildred(Dudukovich), loving daughters Karen Staskiews Kowalski of Lorain and Marlton, NJ, Alexis Edleman ofNorth Ridgeville, 2 accomplished grandsons Mathew Kowalski of Columbus, Ohio, Jason Edleman of Berea, Ohio and two adorable great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father Joseph Staskiews, his mother Alexandra Byczkowski, sister Irene Rybarcyk,
brothers Dominic, Raymond and Joseph Staskiews.
