Joseph W. Yohman, 90, Maintenance man in the B.O.P.

Photo of Joseph W. Yohman Joseph W., age 90, of Lorain, died Monday November 12, 2007 at his residence.

He was born in Smock, Pennsylvania, and had been a resident of Lorain since his childhood.

Mr. Yohman was employed as a maintenance man in the B.O.P. Shop of United States Steel Corporation’s Lorain-Cuyahoga Works. He retired in 1982 following a career that spanned forty-three year with the steel producer.

He was an active parishioner of Saint Stanislaus Catholic Church as well as a member of the Holy Name Society there. He was also a member of the Slovak Catholic Sokols Wreath # 177 as well as Knights of Columbus Council # 637 of Lorain.

Joe was an avid gardener and had formerly served as a volunteer care-taker of the parish grounds of St. Stanislaus for fifteen years.

Survivors include daughters Joyce Yohman of Garfield Heights, Barbara Gucik of Lorain, sons Joseph F. Yohman of Augusta, Georgia, Richard of Lorain, and Anthony, of Hendersonville, North Carolina 10 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, and 9 great great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife Mary (nee Niznik) in 2000, by his parents Joseph and Katherine (nee Luptak) Yohman, by sisters Anna Dibo, Julie Williams, and Margie Larger, and by his brother George.

Visitation will be Friday from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Avenue, Lorain, where a rosary will be recited by the officers and members of the Saint Stanislaus Holy Name Society at 7:00 p.m.. Funeral services will be Saturday beginning at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral chapel and will be followed by the celebration of his funeral mass at 10:00 a.m. in Saint Stanislaus Catholic Church – 2702 Elyria Avenue, Lorain. The Reverend David A. Novak, Parish Administrator will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
