William Chretien, 80, US Steel Retiree, Active at St. John Church

He was born July 10, 1927 in Elton, Louisiana and had resided in Lorain since 1947.
Bill served with the US Army during World War II.
He worked at US Steel in Lorain as a pipe straightener in the 4 Seamless Mill from 1949 until his retirement in 1984.
Bill was a member of St. John Catholic Church in Lorain where he served as an usher and was a member of the church Holy Name Society. He was also a member of USWA Local #1104 in Lorain, AARP, Buckeye State Sheriff’s Association and was a booster of the Ohio State FOP. He enjoyed cats and feeding squirrels.
He is survived by his sister-in-law Beatrice Chretien, niece Patricia LeJeune and great niece Courtney LeJeune, all of Sorrento, Louisiana. He was preceded in death by his wife Matilda Chretien (nee Klena) in 1993, parents James & Ament Chretien (nee Rogeau), brother Russell Chretien and sisters Bernadine Franklin and Mildred Gobert.
The family will receive friends Tuesday 2-4, 7-9 pm at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave., Lorain. Prayer services will be held Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral chapel followed by the mass of Christian Burial Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. at St. John Catholic Church, 2143 Homewood Drive, Lorain. The Rev. Chuck Henkle, associate pastor of the Catholic Church of St. Peter in Lorain, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Lorain where the Disabled American Veterans Chapter #20 of Lorain will conduct military honors.
