Paul W. Poor (Jr.), 92, Lorain City Firefighter

Mr. Poor was born in Wylan, Alabama on May 26, 1915 and had been a resident of Lorain County since his childhood.
A graduate of Brookside High School, he was a former member of the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer in Lorain. Mr. Poor was employed as a firefighter for the City of Lorain. He retired in 1967 following a career that spanned twenty-five years with the city. He had previously been employed as a lineman for the Ohio Edison Company.
Paul was an avid card player and bowled extensively in a variety of social leagues hosted at Rebman’s Recreation. He also participated in several local golf leagues. He was a former member of Lorain Lodge # 552 F. & A.M.
Survivors include his wife of ten years May (nee Smith), daughter Linda Navalinsky of Lorain, step-son Gene Poor of Bowling Green, Ohio, six grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, and a sister Lil Leonard residing in North Ridgeville.
He was preceded in death by his first wife Myfanwy Betty (nee Hughes) in 1991, by a daughter Doreen Tippie in 2002, by his parents Paul and Elaine (nee Hunter) Poor, by sisters Elaine Kostrub and Christine Leonard, and by a brother Gene Poor.
Friends may call Friday from 6-9 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Avenue, Lorain. Funeral services will be Saturday at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral chapel with the Reverend Mark Pemberton, Pastor of Saint Peter United Church of Christ in Amherst officiating. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township.
