Luella M. Baskin, 86, Enjoyed Family Outings

She was born July 24, 1921 in Vandergrift, Pennsylvania and had resided in Lorain since childhood.

Luella was a 1938 graduate of Lorain High School. She worked in the catalog department of Sears, Roebuck & Co, the bookmobile for the Lorain Public Library and then for AAA.

Due to blindness in one eye and minimal vision in the other, Luella was frequently homebound. Her greatest pleasures were her Friday night ritual of eating at Angelo’s Pizza in Amherst with either her son Michael or his former wife Kathi and traveling to Virginia and California to visit her family. She also enjoyed reading from large print books and visiting Las Vegas.

She is survived by her son Edward Baskin, Jr. and his wife Diane of Pasadena, California, daughter Gayle Payant and her husband Rich of Dumfries, Virginia, son James Baskin of Laguna Niguel, California and his former wife Kathy Keene, son Michael Baskin of Amherst and his former wife Kathi Baskin, who is still very much a part of the family, of Amherst, grandchildren Michael Baskin and Samantha Baskin of Pasadena, California, Nicole Payant, Chris Payant, Michelle Payant and Danielle Payant all of Dumfries, Virginia, Brenton Baskin, Clifford Baskin and Ashley Baskin all of Amherst and cousin Mary Kramer, wife of the late Walter Kramer. She was preceded in death by her husband Edward Baskin, daughter Carole Waring, son-in-law Fred Waring, granddaughter Lisa Waring and parents George and Emma Stiteler (nee Yunker).

The family will receive friends Friday 2-4, 7-9 p.m. at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Ave., Lorain. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10:00 a.m. in the funeral chapel followed by the mass of Christian Burial Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church, 310 8th St., Lorain. The Rev. Daniel O. Divis, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Lorain.
