Stephen Miller, 97, U.S. Steel Weigh Master
Stephen Miller, age 97, of Lorain, died Wednesday December 19, 2007 at the Main Street Care Center in Avon Lake following a brief illness.Mr. Miller was born in Detroit, Michigan on October 2, 1910 and had been a resident of Lorain since his childhood.
He was employed as a weigh master at the Lorain-Cuyahoga Works of the United States Steel Corporation; he retired in 1970 following a career that spanned forty-four years with the steel producer. He was a member of United Steelworkers Local # 1104.
Mr. Miller was an active member of the Lorain Hungarian Reformed United Church of Christ where he previously served as a member of the Church Consistory. He was also a member of the Hungarian Sick Benefit Society.
In his free time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and woodworking.
Survivors include his daughter Mrs. James (Adele) Kee of Elyria, son David S. Miller of Reno, Nevada, five grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, and a sister Anna Kovach residing in Florida.
He was preceded in death by his wife Helen (nee Tobias) Miller in 1968, by his parents Paul and Susan (nee Hornyak) Miller, brothers Paul and Louis Miller, and by sisters Priscilla, Elizabeth Boros, and Mary Kelling.
Family graveside services will be conducted later in Elmwood Cemetery with the Reverend Peter Toth, Pastor of the Lorain Hungarian Reformed Church officiating.
