Mary M. Janezic, 86, Was Active In Activities At Ss. Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church
Mary M. Janezic, (nee Gergel), age 83, of Avon, and former long-time Lorain resident, died Monday December 24, 2007 at Community Regional Medical Center in Lorain following an illness of one week.
Mrs. Janezic was born in Lorain on May 17, 1924 and had been a resident of Avon for the past thirteen months coming from Lorain.
For more than sixty-five years Mary was an active parishioner of Ss. Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church in Lorain where she served as Sacristan as well as a teacher in the church’s Parish School of Religion where she assisted scores of candidates in Sacramental preparation. She was also an integral member of the parish census team as well as the coordinator of church-sanctioned bus trips to a multitude of religious and spiritual destinations throughout Ohio.
Mrs. Janezic was a member of the Altar Society of the church as well as a member and former officer of the Ss. Cyril & Methodius Guild. She was a thirty-five year member of the Legion of Mary and also was involved with the K.S.K.J. Slovenian Fraternal Lodge.
In her free time she enjoyed reading, cooking nutritious, healthful meals, and playing cards. Additional interests included sewing, baby-sitting, travel, and collecting newspaper clippings of stories and news items relating to people within her community.
Mary is survived by her daughters Sr. Rosemary Janezic, S.N.D. in residence at the Catholic Church of Saint Peter in Lorain and Mrs. Larry (Barbara) Meschke of Avon, eight grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren, and sisters Agnes Bacacio of Lorain, and Cecelia Virant residing in Byesville,Ohio.
She was preceded in death by her husband Joseph in 2002, by her son Frank in 2000, by her parents John and Barbara Gergel, and by a brother Steve.
Friends may call Wednesday from 4:00 8:00 p.m. in the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada Funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Avenue, Lorain where a parish rosary will be recited at 6:00 p.m. Funeral services will be Thursday beginning with closing prayers offered at 9:00 a.m. in the funeral chapel and will be followed by the celebration of her funeral mass at 9:30 a.m. in Ss. Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church, 1705 East 31st Street, Lorain. The Reverend Paul Krajnik, pastor of Ss. Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
