Milo B. Uehlein, 89, Assistant Train Master

Milo B. Uehlein, 89, of Sheffield Lake, died Tuesday, December 25, 2007 at St. Mary of the Woods in Avon.

He was born July 31, 1918 in Lorain and had resided in Sheffield Lake since 1961.

Milo graduated from Lorain High School. He served with the Persian Gulf Command of the US Army Railroad Battalion during World War II in Iran from 1943 to 1945.

He worked as an assistant train master at the Lake Terminal Railroad in Lorain for 38 � years.

Milo was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Sheffield Lake, the St. Thomas Holy Name Society, knights of Columbus #637 in Lorain, the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen, the American Legion and the Sheffield Lions Club. He was a 60-year member of the United Transportation Union.

Milo was an avid Cleveland Indians, Browns, Ohio State and Notre Dame Fan and he seldom missed a game on TV or the radio. He enjoyed fishing, woodworking, and flower gardening and helping his children with countless projects in their home. A music buff, he loved Big Band Music, especially Glenn Miller, country, polka and Irish tunes. He was an avid listener of WOBL and often called the radio station to request some of his favorite songs or to answer sport questions.

He is survived by his children Mrs. Frank (Elaine “Lainie”) Cargould of Hudson, Myron Uehlein and his wife Candi of South Amherst, Glen Uehlein of Puerto Rico and Mrs. Mike (Sueellen) Bruhn of Vermilion, brother Donald Uehlein and his wife Jane of Lorain, 4 grandchildren, 8 step grandchildren, 7 step great grandchildren and a special friend and companion Wilma Black.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 44 years Albina “Binnie” Uehlein (nee Jancar), granddaughter Margo Lee, parents Bernard and Avila Uehlein (nee Burns), brother Allen Uehlein and sister Lois Unger.

The family will receive friends, Thursday, December 27, 2007 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Gluvna-Shimo-Hromada funeral Chapel, 3224 Broadway Avenue, Lorain. Funeral services will be held Friday at 10:15 a.m. in the funeral chapel followed by the mass of Christian Burial Friday at 11 a.m. at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 521 Harris Road, Sheffield Lake. The Rev. Stephen Shield, pastor, will officiate. Burial with military honors will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Lorain.
