Frank Buckosh, 83, U.S. Steel Retiree
Frank Buckosh, age 83, of Lorain, died Wednesday January 2, 2008 at the Specialty Hospital of Lorain following an illness of one year.Mr. Buckosh was born in Lorain on August 25, 1924 and had been a life-long resident of the city.
He was a graduate of Clearview High School as a member of the Class of 1942. He went on to serve in the United States Navy during World War II fulfilling duty assignments as an Aviation Machinist’s Mate in the Pacific Theater. He was the recipient of the American Area Medal, the World War II Victory Medal, the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal.
Frank was employed as a Manderville Operator at the Lorain-Cuyahoga Works of the United States Steel Corporation. He retired in 1986 after a career that spanned thirty-six years with the steel producer. He was a former member of United Steelworkers Local # 1104 as well as S.O.A.R.
A member of Knights of Columbus Council # 637, Mr. Buckosh was an active parishioner of Saint Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Elyria Township. He was a member of the Holy Name Society there and had been previously recognized as Holy Name Parish Man of the Year.
He was a sports enthusiast who enjoyed following the Cleveland Browns and Indians professional sports teams. An avid league bowler, Frank also enjoyed auto racing and had formerly served as a pit mechanic at the Lorain County Speedway.
Survivors include his wife of sixty years Eva J. (nee Eneff), Buckosh, sons David of Lorain and Terrence of Brownhelm Township, daughter Pamela Supeck of Vermilion, six grandchildren, four great grandchildren, brother Joseph Buckosh of Sheffield, and a sister Elizabeth Liz Suppa of Lorain.
He was preceded in death by his parents Louis and Catherine (nee Lokos) Buckosh, by sisters Grace and Helen, and by brothers Louis, Al, Steve, James, and George.
Funeral services will be Monday at 11:00 a.m. in Saint Vincent de Paul Catholic Church 41295 North Ridge Road, Elyria Township. Participants are asked to gather at church. The Reverend Gaetano Menegatto, C.S.J. will officiate. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Township, OH.
